On Tuesday evening, Israeli police reported that at least six people were killed and twelve others wounded in a shooting attack in Tel Aviv. The incident occurred when two assailants opened fire on a busy boulevard in the Jaffa neighborhood. Both suspects were killed at the scene.
The attack coincided with a significant missile barrage launched by Iran, which sent residents across Israel, including in Tel Aviv, into bomb shelters. The MDA ambulance service received a report of the shooting at 7:01 PM.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended condolences to the families of the victims of the Jaffa shooting and wished a swift recovery to the injured. This violence unfolded just before Iran’s missile strike, which was reportedly a retaliation for the deaths of Iran-backed militant leaders. The missile attack prompted alarms and sheltering throughout Israel.
National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stated that Iran fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles toward various targets in Israel. In response, American naval destroyers joined Israeli forces in intercepting the incoming missiles.
After approximately an hour, the Israeli military declared that the immediate threat had passed and allowed people to leave their shelters across the country, following the successful interception of numerous Iranian missiles.
U.S. and Israeli officials confirmed that there were no reported civilian casualties in Israel. This missile attack followed a warning from a senior White House official, who indicated that Iran was preparing to launch an imminent ballistic missile strike against Israel. This alert came shortly after Israel announced the start of “limited, localized, and targeted ground raids” against the Iran-backed group Hezbollah in Lebanon.
